I had my surgery today.

Belle’s last photo as a Quad.

I had my surgery today. The vet said I did well, even though it took 3 hours, because I’m such a big girl. They will send my lymph nodes off for a biopsy.

I have to stay a couple of nights in the hospital. My mommy is glad about that, because she is no medical professional. They promise to keep me drugged up and out of it.

An interesting thing that the vet said, is that it’s not uncommon for dogs who get prosthetics put in their legs when they tear their ACLs (like I did), to get cancer in that very spot.

I just want to make sure that people know this when they take their dogs to get that kind of surgery. Know the risk…. you know?

I'm an 8 year old Rotti, who has a mass in my left, rear leg, right where I got TTA surgery 3 years ago. This leg is literally a pain in my butt. It will be amputated on Tuesday. Mommy says that a week from today I will be feeling much better. I'm a little scared right now.

  1. Just catching up on the beautiful Belle…and she is sooo beautiful!!

I saw in your earlier blog what a rough time you had before you were able to get to the Vet. I’m sorry your Mom had to fib about your size to get you into the hotel, but sometimes a fib is okay when it comes to helping our dogs!!!

The tip your Bet said about previous surgery on legs possibly leading to that piece of crap disease, unfortunately seems to be true. Certainly not the case in every dog, but there does seems to be a tendency.

Louise Hay! Yep, have certainly read her works through the years. Love that you are reci some affirmations to Belle! So sweet!!

STAY CONNECTED and keep us updated. Glad shes staying at the Bet for a couple of days. Take that time to catch up on your sleep

    1. Thank You! When your name is Belle, you have to live up to it, I guess! Today is Sunday. Surgery was on Wednesday. I’m finally starting to feel better. Hugs to you, too!

  2. Hi. What a beautiful dog. I see that she is big like my girl and I am new to all this so I don’t have a lot of advice to give. But I will say that today I learned how important it is to pad the elbows. My dog had her front leg amputated so it may not be as important in a hind leg amputation but I am still going to mention it because my dog is suffering and I feel that it could have been prevented if I had padded her elbows. I constantly follow her around with a dog bed but sometimes she prefers the hard ground and the multiple times she banged it laying down which caused the bone to bruise and she began licking the elbow and developed a cellulitis. It is very painful and difficult to heal because she is going to keep traumatizing it everytime she lays down. All there other legs are sore from using muscles. Good luck with your dog. This site is great and has so much great info.

    1. Hi Joni, Thanks for the advice on the elbows! Mommy ordered a harness that has a handle on it from Amazon. I like to sleep on the tile. I have a perfectly good dog bed, but don’t want to sleep on it right now. Go figure!
