I am home!!!

What a rough couple of weeks it’s been!

The vet sent me home yesterday, but he told mommy that I am not progressing as I should be from the amputation. A week after my amputation I had to go back to the hospital, then I had kidney failure, that got better, but I had sepsis, that got better, but I have anemia and a bleeding ulcer. WTH??? So the vet sent me home and told mommy that the prognosis isn’t very good unless I make a lot of recovery in the next few days. Guess what?!?! I’m doing a lot better today!!!! I’m still sleepy, and I don’t want to walk unless it’s to get up and go potty, but I’m hungry and I’m eating pretty well. Mommy got me and Arby’s sandwich and I ate all the meat in one bite. She almost gave me her’s, too, but she really wanted it, so I got doggie cookies and liverwurst.

The first photo on this page is right after I got sprung from the hospital, mommy stopped at the nearest McDonald’s and got me a plain cheeseburger. I ate all of the meat. I’m keto and don’t eat bread… lol! Once I got home and had not only mommy’s love, but Uncle Shawn’s and Aunt Cathy’s and all of my wonderful neighbors, I ate some more. Mommy let me sleep at Uncle Shawn’s last night. I LOVE him! He’s good cop. Mommy’s bad cop. Today, while mommy was at work, Uncle Shawn took the second photo of me, hanging like a big dog on the porch with a smile.

I’m thinking that things are going to get better and better. Before you know it, I will be running around the pool like a TriPawd on a mission to save whoever is swimming.

Here is a video of me doing my lifeguard duty when I was a Quad:

This was taken in July. How things can change so fast! Well, I’m going to get better fast, too, now that the worst is over.

Mommy refuses to believe that this is anything more than me coming off that horrible Gabapentin. She has heard horrible things from her friends about that drug! Mommy will not give me any more of that crap!

I'm an 8 year old Rotti, who has a mass in my left, rear leg, right where I got TTA surgery 3 years ago. This leg is literally a pain in my butt. It will be amputated on Tuesday. Mommy says that a week from today I will be feeling much better. I'm a little scared right now.

  1. I’ve been checking back all day, hoping for a good update. And all things considered, this IS a good update!!!

    EATING!!! YAAAAAAAAY!!!😁
    DRINKING!!! YAAAAAAAAY 😁
    POTTY!! YAAAAAAAAY 😁😁
AND FROM THESE WONDERFUL POCTURES, BELLE LOOKS VERY HAPPY AND QUITE THRILLED TO BE HOME!! YAAAAAAAAY 😁

BELLE IS HOME AND IS HEALING!! I BELIEVE, JUST LIKENYOU, BELLE IS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER🤗🤗🤗

Qnd as far as your Vet saying she wasn’t progressing as she should from the amputation. DUH!! DUH!!! AND MORE DUH!!!!

She’s TRYING to recover from MAJOR surgery, adjusting to three legs, all while trying to fight sepsis, kidney issues, anemia and an ulcer, right?????

Just gonnz throw out a couple of questions, and you cert don’t have to answer, you have enough on your plate.

Has the Vet given her anything fot her ulcer? Anything to coat her tummy? Any suggestions to stop the bleeding ulcer? Any suggestions for tackling the anemia? A blood transfusion?
What is causing the anemia, the bleeding, the anemia, the sepsis, the kidney issues, etc??

Is she still on an antibiotic for her sepsis?

Okay, you get my point. I just feel like the Vet owes you some answers…the causes…his plan of treatment.

I DO aplogize for raising these questions. It’s just to see all these things happen after amputation, with no indication prior, really has me confused.
I know you, mentioned Gabapentin may have been, in part, the cause of “something”. Was she on an excessive amount fott a long time? The only thing I’ve seen here as a “side effect” sometimes is maybe some lethargy. I know it’s supposed to be tapered off and not quit abruptly if it’s been used on a consistent basis for awhile. With that said, my Happy Hannah’s Vet never gave me that “warning”, as is the case with a lot of Vets. Anyway, she had no issues.
Geez… I just went off the rails again with my questions!

Now, let’s get back to celebrating BELLE IS HOME, AND EATING AND HEALING!!❤❤❤

It really did make my day to know she IS improving!! Slow and easy, lots of rest, lots of love and spoiling…ahhh….the power of love❤

Belle, we’re all cheering for you! We love and adore you and admire your fighting spirit!! And the fighting spirit of your devoted hoomans!!

    Love and hugs

  2. She is on Entyce for appetite stimulation, Sucralfate for the ulcer, and Clindamycin and Enroflaxin for antibiotics. I think a blood transfusion is not in the budget. The honest truth is that when I got Belle, I was half of a couple and not in dire straights financially. I am not rich enough to have a dog. A healthy dog, yes, but one with medical problems, no. I will never have another dog without pet insurance, because Belle has been quite expensive at the vet for many reasons, right from the start she ate metal and had to have a bunch of veterinary care related to that. Then she fell off the seawall and cut her leg on a Sunday $800, those stitches were not very well done, more money on a Tuesday to get them fixed. TTA Surgery $3000, and now this, at about $2500 so far. I’m really hoping and praying that she pulls through this, but she did have osteosarcoma cut off her with that leg, so I realize that time is probably short.

Thank you for all of your support through this!!!!

  3. Glad to here things are turning for the better, but I’m sorry to hear that Gabapentin may have contributed to your difficulties. Most here find that Gabapentin is a miracle drug. I even tried it on Jake who was nearing the end due to spinal stenosis but he found it disorienting, but Jake was nearly 15 and had some doggy dementia already.

    1. Thank You!!!

A lot of my friends on Facebook have told me bad things about Gabapentin. On July 21st she had a senior checkup and was perfectly healthy. I have combed over those papers, and she really was. On September 11th, she started taking Gabapentin. She had surgery on the 19th and was progressing, but crying at night, not on Gabapentin. On the 22nd she went in to have her tubes taken out and I told the vet about the crying. He added some Gabapentin to her meds. After that she went downhill. There is no evidence that she had any problem other than the cancer in her leg before surgery. Her bad problems started when she went back on the Gabapentin. That, combined with all the bad stuff I have heard about it on Facebook, makes me think that Gabapentin is the problem. I will never know for sure, but neither Belle, nor I, will ever take Gabapentin again.

  4. OMD!!! BELLE IS YOUR MILLION DOLLAR GAL ON SO MANY LEVELS!!! AND SHE IS ALSO A MIRACLE DOGGY!!!

Goodness knows you have done EVERYTHING possible for your girl, above and beyond!!!

And I can certainly relate to your financial “situation” in many ways. We can only do
what we can do. And most people would not have done half as much as what you have done for your Belle❤

Certainly sounds like Gabapentin could have been the culprit . Thank you for sharing that with us. Belle has certainly taught us a lot on this journey, that’s for sure!

She’s home and she’s feeling better and that’s all that matters! She is soooo loved❤

    Cheering for that special gal!!
    Hugs
