Ziggy

I figured that I would keep you in the loop…. you all have been so supportive of me and Belle.

I am still heartbroken over the loss of Belle, but since I pay pet rent, and have room in my home and my heart, I adopted this guy, Sir Ziggy Stardust von Sheppard III, from the shelter last Friday. He had been in the shelter since before Belle became a TriPawd, and has heart worms. The first two photos are of his freedom ride. He has to stay mellow for a month while the heart worms work their way out of his system, but after that, watch out! We’re going to have some fun.

I got some news about one of Belle’s friends, the Rotti around the corner, tonight. JJ is now a TriPawd. She had a tumor on her leg and they had to amputate it. JJ is on the left, Belle on the right. I wish I had known earlier. I donated all of Belle’s assist-ablity gear to Gunnar’s Wheels. I could have given them to David, to help with JJ. I sure hope JJ is going to be OK. When I see David again, I will tell him about TriPawds.com.

Take it easy,

Anne

I went to the Rainbow Bridge today

I had lost the use of my back end and was crying a lot in spite of all the drugs. Mommy had to make the horrible decision. We were both very scared, as well as Shawn, but now I am able to run and play with my boyfriend, Diesel. I got to meet my sister, Tiffany and all the other pets at the bridge. I promised Mommy that I wouldn’t chase, Bob, Rollo, JR, Charvel, Morty and Theo.

When we got to the vet Mommy told the vet that we needed to put me to sleep because I have been crying every night. Well, Mommy needs to be put to sleep, too, because she cries every night, too, lately. I had never met Dr. Vicente before, but he remembered my cat brother, Theophilus from like 20 years ago. Dr. Vicente was really nice and took great care of me in my final moments. My regular vet, Dr. Andrews wouldn’t be back to work until Wednesday, and I just couldn’t wait that long. Plus, Mommy knows that Dr. Andrews has a dog with cancer, too. She didn’t want Dr. Andrews to be upset.

Yesterday we had a birthday party, because I would have turned 9 on Wednesday. Lots of friends stopped by and I got to eat McDonald’s, Hot Dogs, Cookies and Mom cooked me a Steak for dinner last night. Of course there were lots of furry friends at my party. At one point they were all running around, chasing each other. I really wanted to join in, but my back end didn’t work.

I had a good life up until the cancer. I have been on a paddleboard, and I’ve been hiking and camping and to the dog beach more times than I can count. At one time I lived on the water and I got to chase a dolphin. No joke! Of course, I wound up falling in and that wasn’t so good. Dolphin was my favorite word, followed closely by McDonald’s, Kitty and Shawn.

Mommy and Shawn are very sad, but I know Mommy will get another dog. Next time she’s going to adopt, not buy. I’m glad she bought me, though.

I’d better go…. Tiffany and Diesel are calling me. We are going to chase rabbits. It’s so much fun being able to run again.

Peace Out…. Belle

It’s likely the cancer has spread

A week ago I did the TriPawd Shuffle for a whole 2 block walk. Then my leg started giving out. On Wednesday we went to the vet and he said I had a torn (not completely) ACL. That again!!!! Anyway, on Thursday when Mommy took me out, I wasn’t using the leg at all and I didn’t pee. She called the vet and he said that if I didn’t pee all day to come in on Friday. So we did. We went in first thing Friday morning and saw our regular vet. We didn’t do a bunch of expensive tests, but the likelyhood is that the cancer that was in my amputated leg has metastasized and is causing my paralysis. I am a happy and hungry girl. As long as I’m happy and hungry, Mommy has agreed to clean up any little accidents I may have. We are back to using puppy piddle pads.

Mommy is no slouch, so she promptly asked around on Facebook if anyone had a wheelchair they would sell cheap. (Mommy has good wheelchair karma, because she donated her brother’s fancy wheelchair to his nursing home when he died.) Auntie Karen happened to be getting a new wheelchair for her Mom tomorrow, so guess who got a free wheelchair!?!?! Mommy really believes in karma. Here’s proof. Since I’m a big girl, this person wheelchair is perfect for me. Here’s a photo of me with my new wheels and my beloved Uncle Shawn. He helps me a lot and I love him more than anyone (including mean old Mommy).

I will be 9 on January 9th. Mommy is throwing a little birthday party for me. As long as I’m a happy, hungry girl, Mommy will not send me to the Rainbow Bridge. She has promised that she won’t let me suffer. Mommy assures me that my sister, Tiffany, is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge and will show me all the ropes. She’s a Rotti, too. She had osteosarcoma, too. I hear that most Rotties get it. Once I am not happy here on Earth anymore, I will be happy to meet my sister. For a long time people called me Tiffany. I used to think “Who is this Tiffany and why do they keep calling me that?” We will have a lot to talk about. Mommy and Uncle Shawn are sad, and Mommy is a huge crybaby, but we are all focusing on the positive and tonight I’m happy to have new wheels!

Oh, and I am Alpha Dog again. Mommy is a pushover, so I am calling all the shots. If I growl just right, she will pull out a dog bed and sleep on the floor with me. Boy do I have her trained well!
